All about Maltese

From wikipedia:

Adult Maltese range from roughly 3 to 7 lb (1.4 to 3.2 kg), though breed standards, as a whole, call for weights between 4 and 7 lb (1.8 and 3.2 kg). My Pepper's 4kg, overweight liao?

Maltese are bred to be cuddly companion dogs, and thrive on love and attention. I can't agree more. They are extremely lively and playful, and even as a Maltese ages, his or her energy level and playful demeanor remain fairly constant. Which is why I love small dogs. Some Maltese may occasionally be snappish with smaller children and should be supervised when playing, although socializing them at a young age will reduce this habit. So Pepper's not antisocial? The Maltese is very active within a house, and, preferring enclosed spaces, does very well with small yards. Yes, Pepper loves the space behind sofas. For this reason, the breed also fares well in apartments and townhouses, and is a prized pet of urban dwellers. Maltese have a bad reputation as yappers. NO WONDER LAAAAAA.

An Australia-wide (not including Tasmania) research project carried out in conjunction with RSPCA found owners likely to dump their Maltese terriers, citing the tendency of Maltese to bark constantly. This breed is Australia's most dumped dog. Why?????!!!!!

Maltese dogs are hypoallergernic :D

I miss my Pepper!!

Hair business

I dyed my hair.

Because well, I've got tons of white hair no thanks to all that stress, and it's like a ritualistic thing to dye your hair after graduating from school/uni whatever.

I wanted my hair to be like Eki's colour. I love her, she's so pretty :) I hope she doesn't mind me hotlinking her pic. Visit her blog here!

I should have eBayed the dye she used.

Anyway I went to Chinatown and bought meself a box of Palty hair dye, touted to be the best hair dye for asian hair, used by many Jap celebs and what not.

Bitter Cappuccino is the name of the shade. The salesgirl said the colour will turn out kinda like the sample fake hair on the display. Great because I lovee cappucino :D

The thing about hair dyes, whether DIY or at the salon, is that you'll never ever get the colour you thought you'd get at first try. Unless of course, your stylist is David Gan or similar. It's expected I guess, because the last time my hair underwent any processing was when I used Mummy's herbal powdery thingy to get my hair all black. Going from black to colour is damn susah.

Anyway, my hair colour keluar really like the shade of the model on the box's hair colour. Deep dark chocolate, but only noticeable under the light :S The colour really is quite nice. At first I thought it keluar black, but now that it's been dried I am able to see the colour better. It's as good as it is touted to be, the colour memang ada keluar from root to end (whereas some brands I've used only keluar kat the tip but the root takde, or vice versa).

I wanted a more noticeable colour though, hurmph.

The dye's not bad, though it doesn't leave my hair as soft as Garnier. I rate it 7/10 because it gave good coverage but perhaps I needed two bottles instead of one (very little dye lor in one bottle).

My hair is back long again, and it's growing out the layers sampai my hair thick thick :S I'm not complaining la... I'm grateful my hair is still thick even though I drop hair like nobody's business.

I finally met my supervisor today, and I'll officially start on Thursday :)

Syok thing is, I'm getting paid 300 bucks this week without doing anything much :P It'll be nice to get some experience doing proper research finally. Haha.

I'm free tomorrow, and I'm going strawberry picking! :D

I'm done!

Now that I'm officially done with exams and therefore, officially done with all the stuff for my degree...

I feel so relieved. Haha.

3 years has not been easy, especially the last year here, but I'm glad I made it through with okay results.

That said, I'm not officially done with my education.

Well, a nerd will always be a nerd.

Having wrecked my body for the past two months with stress and super lack of sleep, I celebrated the end of my exams with a bibimbap. LOL.

Most people would go out clubbing and stuff. But all I did was sleep.

I went to bed at 6pm something.

Slept till 4am then body's slept debt repaid oledi. Still I forced myself to sleep longer.

No more coffee for me!!! XD No more coffee-smelling pee too. Lolz.

Now I get to have time to read books because I enjoy them, not because I have to! Immediately went to library to borrow some!

Clockwise from top left: Forbidden Colours by Yukio Mishima, A Leg to Stand On by Oliver Sacks, Double Exposure by Brian Caswell, and The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat by Oliver Sacks.

All very interesting books. Can't wait to dive into them!

Wedding dress?

Everyone's obsessed over this MV.

It's very cheesy, but it's still kinda sad :(

I don't think Tae Yang is really that drool-worthy, but he definitely can dance well, and he can sing despite his punk-ish look :)

And he totally rocks on the piano lor.

Dunno la. Lately soppy songs hit a spot on my heart.

Piccies

Piccies!!

My exam today sucked :( Let's not talk about it.

Let's talk about piccies :D

Some sweet and sour crispy chicken with tangy tartare, with rice and miso soup. Yums!

My very blergh bowl of noodles.. Not recommended.

Er, braised beef I think?

Pig ears!!! I loveeeeeee. Chewy texture XD

Omellette ricee.

I apologize for forgetting to rotate the pic but... my home-cooked honey roasted chicken :D

Purple-flower trees ^_^

They're called Jacaranda trees and lately have been blooming all over Australia. If a flower falls on your head, you'll be in luck :) This is an up-close shot (the branches were about 3 metres above my head, I almost got a crooked neck getting this shot having to look upwards) at the highest speed of Canonie but not at full zoom. I was surprised by the clarity of the details on the flowers :D :D :D Not bad indeed. That blurry thing at the background is actually a lost and loney green balloon floating up into the sky...

See? The whole city street looks so pretty ^_^

A mock choo choo train full of pressies. You can see christmas things popping up already.

I gave up on the Kindle. I've got more worthwhile things to put as my target hoho.

One more paper to go.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Boooooks

I discovered that joy of Project Gutenberg on Ippie thanks to an application called stanza. Sure, it's not the same as reading an actual book.

But Stanza gives me more than 50,000 free books in my palm.

I'm in readers' heaven.

Jokes?

I got these jokes from Joanne Peh's blog. I love her blog, she writes very fluently and about interesting stuff and lots about fashion and what not :) she's my favourite Mediacorp starlet from now on heehee.

A turkey was chatting with a bull. “I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree,” sighed the turkey, “but I haven’t got the energy.” “Well, why don’t you nibble on some of my droppings?” replied the bull. “They’re packed with nutrients.” The turkey pecked at a lump of dung and found that it actually gave him enough strength to reach the first branch of the tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after a fourth night, there he was proudly perched at the top of the tree. Soon he was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot the turkey out of the tree.
The moral of the story?

Bullshit might get you to the top, but it won’t keep you there.

***

A crow was sitting on a tree, doing nothing all day. A small rabbit saw the crow, and asked him, “Can I also sit like you and do nothing all day long?” The crow answered: “Sure, why not.” So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the crow, and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.
The moral of the story?

To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up.

***

A priest was driving along and saw a nun on the side of the road, he stopped and offered her a lift which she gladly accepted. She got in and crossed her legs, forcing her gown to open and reveal a lovely leg. The priest had a look and nearly had an accident. After controlling the car, he stealthily slid his hand up her leg. The nun looked at him and immediately said, “Father, remember psalm 129?” The priest was flustered and apologized profusely. He forced himself to remove his hand. However, he was unable to remove his eyes from her leg. Further on, while changing gear, he let his hand slide up leg again. The nun once again said, “Father, remember psalm 129?” Once again the priest apologized. “Sorry sister, but the mind is weak.” Arriving at the convent, the nun got out, gave him a meaningful glance and went on her way. On his arrival at the church, the priest rushed to retrieve a bible and looked up psalm129. It said, “Go forth and seek; further up, and you will find glory.”
The moral of the story?

Always be well informed in your job; Or you might miss a great opportunity.

***

I've been stuffing myself silly with vege because i'm trying to get back on my diet. Sigh. And my face T_T All those pimples...

Two papers down, two more to go.

Then I'll be a graduate :)

I want a Kindle!!!

Happy birthday Bee :)

Julie and Julia the movie, is rather inspiring :) It tickles me enough just to get me itchy for writing, and for perhaps, getting a cookbook of my own and cooking my way though it too :D But that will be rather copy-cattish lar. Do watch it though, it's a good movie.

Besides, I don't think I would dare do French cooking :S

I have bookmarked the original blog mentioned in the movie and is slowly making my way reading the post. The link is here: http://blogs.salon.com/0001399/2002/08/25.html

I watched it despite having a paper on Monday because, well, sometimes people feel left out. But let us not get emo on that. I have since outgrown my emo teenage rebelliondom and have a much lower tolerance for emo people, so I don't want to be emo myself. All I will say is, reciprocity. The way you treat me will be the way I treat you. That is all. I am all but too experienced in this game, I know who my true allies are, and I am fiercely loyal to ONLY them.

Today I was doing this ah, quick and nasty mini psychoanalytical thing on myself while I was at Supre. Yeah, Supre, the Australian brand of clothing was has super small-sized clothes on its mannequins. I'm a size S for Supre O_o it isn't the smallest size la, there's until XXS. But the point is, a few years back, I would never dare to enter Supre. I hated buying clothes because nothing fit, so, I did this "sour grape" thing and treated as though I didn't care about clothes. The truth is I did want many clothes, and to try out clothes that every other girl seem to be able to wear. I looked at my reflection with a Supre bodycon dress on and thought, "I don't know how I got here, but I did."

No, I am still not satisfied with my weight. I've got serious cellulite and flabby thighs and it's gonna be a super difficult task to get them toned because I wasn't born thin (I was a very heavy baby at birth). Thighs are waaaaay more difficult to get toned than tummy area okay. I can feel and see the effects of yoga on my tummy area (that said, my fats are turning into muscle, and muscle is heavier than fat, so weighing myself is a confusing thing because clothes have gotten loose but the scales says I'm heavier :S), and a little bit on my legs, but the legs process sure gonna take a longer time. But I am definitely happier with who I am now than who I was before. The fact that I could wear a bodycon dress, turn to the side, and not see any unsightly bulges, is an awesome feat from the me who was once 20kg's heavier.

I am no beauty, but I bet you 50 bucks that 9 out of 10 beauties you see out there have never had to deal with starting out being obese.

That said, today's paper was good, although I felt like cheated because there were no questions on gorrillas or bonobos or chimpanzees which I had spent the few days to memorize -_-

Speaking of chimpanzees, I'm quite sure you've heard of the lady whose face got mauled by a chimp.

I am hardly surprised at all.

Watch this to see the REAL behaviour of chimps, not just the intelligent, happy monkey side. But also the dark side. Chimps are highly territorial and they'll beat the crap out of any other chimp who's not from their troop. It's a bit gory, so do avoid if you're squeamish.

Shaken? Don't be. Even creatures like dolphins are extremely violent, it's just that the media doesn't show that side of these animals. We are also like them too. Why are people surprised when animals like chimps and dolphins are violent but not when tigers are? That's because we think that chimps and dolphins are more intelligent so they should be more, you know, civilized.

Yeah well we're the most intelligent being (apparently) and some of us are worse than animals -_-

Today is my Bee's birthday, so happy birthday Bee :)

Honestly we've been going through quite a rough patch. But after some thinking I realized that these rough patches kinda made us who were are as a couple. Odd. Quarrelsome. Unbalanced. Strong, in a way. For being able to tahan in an LDR without ever bothering to call each other on the phone or through Skype. Lol. Yes, we don't Skype. Maybe only like, once every two months. LOL. Weirdness.

Anyway, you're already 21 years old Bee, so stop being a boy and start becoming a man, go out there and kick butt. We both have had enough to dealing with your butt getting kicked :P

Also, if I get into a good university that's in the state where he'll be going, I might just decide to go :) That said, it must have been considered that 1) the university is good 2) the course is good 3) I do want to do that course (because I ain't a stupid no-brainer submissive girlfriend - my career priorities first, then my heart). If it's a good business masters, I might just go, even if I get lucky enough to get into psych honours here :) Why? The same reason why people often choose to not accept a job promotion in a faraway country despite the benefits because they don't want to be far away from their loved ones. Plus, flying back home will be muuuuuuuuuchos cheaper XD It's scary, I guess, to leave behind this place which I have gotten familiar with, but look at how many moles there are on the soles of my feet. I am a kaki jalan. I am a flexible, adaptive person. And I am itching for change, change towards the sides of me which I would be more comfortable as. I might just take up the challenge. I'll be 21 years next year, what better time to start on a new adventure?

:)

I really miss going to temples. The peacefulness of it.. But even so I pray almost every night for blessings for my loved ones, because I miss them so :'( it helps me sleep just a little better and get some peace in my heart. I do want to get in closer touch with Buddhism once my exams are over.

I hate summer

Where is my spring?!

For a few weeks, flowers were abloom..

But it was very cold still, like winter's final gasp of breath.

Then hell hath no fury like Australian summer. Effing 40 degrees today man. 40 effing degrees. And its not officially summer yet!!! My apartment is like a baking oven. I start to sweat a few seconds after I leave the 'blowing perimeters' of my standing fan. Mind you the fan blows hot air :S

Doing yoga nowadays feels like Hatha yoga lo. Sweat kao2 man. But I think I will put on weight instead because I constantly crave for an ice cold bottle of soda. I only have one pair of shorts :S kenot wear long pants I tell you. The heat burns my ass.

It's soooo hot I automatically wake at 7 something in the morning because it's too uncomfortable to sleep le :(

Ahhhhhhh.

I want my 6 months of 24/7 free aircon-dom baaaaaaack.

Epistaxis

So, as the summer comes nearer and the weather becomes hell dry, my nightly nose bleed becomes worse. Sigh.

I googled, and apparently it's called epistaxis.

"The nose will eventually dry out and the mucous will become thick and ripe for infection. The nose mucosal lining will dry to point where the lining will crack and fissure. The nose mucosal lining is not like your outer skin, it is very thin and fragile. If a blood vessel is located at the position where it cracks from drying, it will bleed."

I think I should get a humidifier and a nasal dryness cream before things get more serious :(

Yay, it's out! But...

Brown Eyed Girls finally released their new MV.

It's not as provocative or interesting as Abracadabra though.

I don't really understand what's the story until I read the others' comments on Youtube. I just pity the guy kena beat up. Lol.

I don't understand why the four girls shared one boy though -_-

This song and MV wasn't as nice :( I find it kinda annoying the "dot dot dot dot dot" (which is the actual Morse corse for SOS I believe).

OMG Super Junior is genius XD A bunch of good looking guys dancing a girls' song and moves. They even mixed in BEG's Abracadabra and 2pm's Again again XD

Okay Yahoo! today showed this article on their homepage... Wow, I'd love to visit some of these places :( Yahoo! always have very interesting articles, and that's why it's my homepage and not Google (why bother homepage-ing Google when you have a Google search bar already?) and definitely NOT Facebook -_- Yahoo! articles are good for increasing my general knowledge heheh.

1. Dragon Blood Trees of Socotra. Wow. Look at those trees... Wonders of nature in all its glory.

2. Takstang Monastery in the Kingdom of Bhutan. I could die happy here.

3. Dogon tribal buildings in Mali, Africa. Quaint little huts :)

4. Antartic glaciers, Antartica. T_T I wish I could see that in real life.

5. Ocean surfing hippos :D in Gabon, Africa. Despite being heavier than elephants, hippos are really cute :)

6. Chernobyl Power Plant. If you don't know, 23 years ago one of the most horrible nuclear reactor meltdown happened here. It's a tragic event that was due to mankind's greed (unsurprisingly), killing thousands of people (whether immediately due to radiation poisoning, or due to cancer), animals, plants... oh and changed the evergreen pine tree leaves into orange colour. I wonder how safe it is to go there now though. I though it'd take hundreds of years before the radiation dissipated?

7. Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump, Canada. Apparently the Native Americans killed bisons for 5,500 years by chasing them until they jumped off this cliff. Then the rest of the gang would be waiting at the bottom of the cliff to carve up the carcasses O_o ingenious! It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The weather is soooo soooo hot :S

Swaying me

I should have gotten a blackberry :( dang.

My butt hurts from yoga.. After two weeks of not exercising thanks to assignments, I feel like I lost abit of flexibility, strength and balance. Must get back to my routine. The problem with exercise is that I eat more :S

Or maybe i ate more because I'm upset. Sigh. The proof of insecurity is when small things is enough to sway you. I realize that I must look so petty, but from my POV.. I dunno la. Seeing those I know who have the luck made me flinch and wonder why don't I deserve that too? Am I that unlucky or am I just plain bad?

I went out to prevent myself from moping but it only made things worse. Gyah. No point blaming luck though. I made these choices.

Friends are sometimes more valuable because your connection with them is simple and uncomplicated, and you don't have to bother thinking about many things.
